The Scottish Sailing Institute / Largs SC hosted an open meeting for Ospreys, plus the Scottish Championship for Lasers and Radials, on June 18/19. There was sunshine but no wind initially, but a nice Southerly breeze arrived in the afternoon, allowing three races in summery conditions.
The first day's racing was very close, with race wins shared between Viola and Mike Scott and Rob Shaw/Ian Little, while Alan Henderson/ Alastair Barrie split the two with a string of second places. Sunday was greyer with winds up to 12mph at times, and the fleet sailed on Olympic triangles as a change from Saturday's trapezoids. The first two races went to Rob, but a last race win by Viola gave her the open, with the top three separated by just two points after the six races.
This was a new venue for the Osprey class, and Viola Scott declared, "Largs is a really nice place to sail! Lovely big stretch of open water, and the race management really was good."
Overall Results: (top three)
1. Viola and Mike Scott, Kielder Water SC, 8pts
2. Rob Shaw and Ian Little, Kielder Water SC, 9pts
3. Alan Henderson and Alastair Barrie, Prestwick SC, 10pts
Next Osprey opens coming up are the WS (National Series) event at Poole YC, and the South Wales series event at Tenby. Both are on June 25/26.
June 30 marks the end of the early entry discount period for entries to the Osprey Nationals at Mumbles from 11-14 August.
