On Saturday 18th June 40 boats attended West Lancashire Yacht Club to compete for the Lloyd Hayes Trophy and the Bob Willetts Optimist Trophy, part of the RYA North West Junior Traveller Trophy. Unfortunately they were greeted with a lack of wind but the sun was out.

After a postponement, while we waited for the wind to fill in, the first race got under way with a good race for each fleet despite the light winds. The first race was won by: George Creasy in the Optimist Fleet; Sian Talbot and Eloise Clapson-McBride in an RS Feva in the Junior Fleet; Ben & Gabe Hill in a GP14 in the Youth Fleet.

After a tasty meal prepared by the ladies in the galley, the second race got underway in slightly more wind. The winners were: Jonny Latham in the Optimist Fleet; Sian Talbot and Eloise Clapson-McBride in the Junior Fleet; Ben & Gabe Hill in the Youth Fleet.

During the day the wind built and for the third race the sailors had a moderate breeze. Once the second race finished the Race Committee sent the sailors straight back out to try to make up time after the postponement. The winners were: George Creasy in the Optimist Fleet; Harvey Leigh and Drew Gibbons in an RS Feva in the Junior Fleet; Ben & Gabe Hill in the Youth Fleet.

The overall winners were: George Creasy from West Kirby S.C. in the Optimist Fleet who was presented with the Bob Willets Optimist Trophy; Sian Talbot and Eloise Clapson-McBride from Leigh and Lowton S.C. in the Junior Fleet who were presented with the Lloyd Hayes Trophy; Ben and Gabe Hill from West Lancashire Y.C. in the Youth Fleet.

Thanks go to Tim Harper Boats for sponsoring the event, the people who helped in the galley, the safety team, the race committee and everyone else who helped.
