29er Harken Series Update

The 29er Harken GP Series continues this weekend with GP6 at Grafham and an impressive 38 entries for this mid exam break. GP7 follows at Ullswater then the final event - GP8 - is at Hayling Island where a large turnout is expected of likely 50 boats.

The currently leaders of the GP series are Crispin Beaumont and Tom Darling with a run of 1,1,1,1,DNC but they are not entered this weekend perhaps opening the door for Bobby Hewitt and Harvey Martin to continue where they left off at Marconi - GP5.

However, the post Youth Nationals events always throw up some surprises as partnerships change offering chances for new pairs to make a mark while the exam season "gets in the way".

In the girl's fleet some interesting battles can be expected with Youth National Champions Phoebe Connellan and Sophie Otter who pushed hard for overall honours at Marconi now getting close to Hannah Bristow and Emily Covell as top ladies in the series.

In the mixed Jessie Main and David Brand will be looking to press home their position as the top pair in this category.

So far the weather forecast looks as if there will be a light to moderate wind and Sailing Secretary Charlie Stowe is set to take the PRO duties - thanks to Charlie for his sterling work for the class over many years. Our thanks also to sponsors Harken and also Grafham Water Sailing Club for stepping in as the venue was shifted for logistical reasons.

After this weekends Harken GP, however, the majority of the sailors will be back to the books until late June before both UK and International 29er events beckon.
