Royal Victoria Yacht Club (RVYC) hosted a very successful event as part of RYA Push the Boat Out last Saturday 21st of May 2016.
RYA Push the Boat Out is a nationwide event that saw hundreds of sailing clubs and centres across the country opening their gates for local people to come and have a go at sailing and windsurfing.
This year we had an amazing 351 venues sign up, with 477 events taking place over the nine days, so we are hopeful that even more people will have had the opportunity to get on the water.
Across the UK we had a mixed bag in terms of weather conditions over the 9 days, with plenty of breeze, a few grey clouds, a little rain but also plenty of sunshine.
The RVYC opened its doors on a grey day at 10 am with a bustle of activitiy both on & off the water. There were club boats – a pico; optimist & wayfarer on the lawn for youngsters to look at with our cadets; some knot tying in the clubhouse & a fleet of cruisers & ribs on the pontoon to take families & friends out on the water. We had over 20 visitors and 6 club members trying our different boats. From a Trimaran to a National Squib some quotes from those that got their feet wet, "Exhilarating; loads of fun; want to do it again & can Alan take us to France with him!"
Commodore Tony Pope said: "We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out. A huge thanks to all those RVYC members who made the day such a success and we look forward to welcoming some new faces who got the sailing bug!
RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said, "Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for you to discover your local sailing venue, like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is."
Lastly, from everyone at the RYA, we want to say thank you for signing your club/centre up to PTBO, and delivering some great open days and taster sessions. We know how much hard work goes into planning, organising and delivering these events. We hope that you enjoyed your event and also managed to enthuse some new sailors, sign up some new members and maybe fill a few courses.
