The RS Tera North summer racing series has now reached the half way stage with 46 helms having competed in one or both of the meetings held so far. With just 3 weeks to go to round 3, to be held at Derwent Reservoir SC on Saturday/Sunday 4 and 5 June it's clear that the competition is hot and going to get a lot hotter as the series draws to a close and the final event brings with the it the one discard for the series. With more local boats expected to come out for the DRSC event the number of series entrants should top 50, showing just how 'big' the Tera is in the North of England and how much it is doing to drive forward Junior and Youth sailing.
In the Pro fleet Oliver Kent (Ripon SC) is leading, with Cameron Straughan and Thomas Nicholls in 2nd and 3rd, both clearly going to be working hard to reel him in when they sail on their home waters in June. Jamie Rastrick's win at Ripon just puts him ahead of the Farrell brothers who counted 2nd and 3rd at Bassenthwaite but all 3 need to discard their current 'DNC' scores if they want to be at the top of the leader board at the end of the series.
In the Sport fleet it's another Ripon SC helm who's leading the pack but Ellie Clark isn't having it all her own way with a very strong fleet chasing her. Theo Stewart (Windermere School) won at Ripon and that result moves him up to 3rd but it's DRSC's Thomas Donald who holds 2nd place and with Clark unlikely to make the DRSC meeting and it being Donald's home club there could well be some changing places as a result. Josh Manning (LLSC) is in 4th being pursued by 2 more Windermere School boats, those of James Johnson and Felix Stewart. Eilish Graham (RSC/DRSC) and William Bailey (RSC) have also posted great results and are likely to continue their rise up the leaderboard.
The series finale will be held at South Windermere School on Saturday 9 July, with prizes for all those who qualify for the series.
