The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is delighted to announce that its annual Spring Regatta is to be sponsored by the Salty Dog Bar and Bistro, one of Jersey's leading restaurants, located at St Aubin's Harbour and just a short walk away from the Club.
Commodore James Wilding says 'The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club warmly welcomes the Salty Dog as its sponsor for the Club's Spring Regatta. This major event in the Island's sailing programme will see a great deal of activity around the Club throughout the weekend and it is wonderful to have this degree of support from one of St Aubin's leading businesses.'
Being the Salty Dog's first venture into sponsoring the Regatta, owner Natalie Duffy says 'Having been in business in the village since 1998, we have been looking forward to the right moment to support the RCIYC. When we heard that the Club was looking for a sponsor we seized the opportunity. We are very fortunate to have one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world in our tiny harbour village and see this association as a real privilege. It is wonderful when boating events take place in and around St. Aubin's Bay; the buzz of local and visiting yachtsmen brings a truly nautical atmosphere to the village.'
'Furthermore, with the wider involvement of the St. Aubin Community, we may be able to expand the activities that surround the Regatta by bringing back the St. Aubin's Harbour Festival. This is a great time of year for the village to shake off the winter and bounce into to the summer. It goes without saying that a seaside harbour festival would be a great benefit to our tourism industry at a relatively slow time of year. It is a really exciting business and community project with loads of potential and we are eager to research the possibilities for the years ahead.'
The event, which is open to all-comers, takes place in St Aubin's Bay over the weekend of 14th & 15th May, and is the first of the Island's major regattas, for the season, providing two days of competitive racing for sportsboat, cruiser, dayboat, sport-catamaran and dinghy classes.
Cruiser skippers should note that the Regatta is approved for the use of Spinlock IRC Single Event Ratings for both British and French boats.
