Island Sailing Club Evening Race Series - Day 2

by Rod Nicholls, Principal Race Officer 28 Apr 2016 14:16 BST 26 April 2016

41 boats raced in the second of the Island Sailing Club's Tuesday Evening Race Series.

With a 15 knot breeze and a quick snow shower (possibly the first in the history of evening racing?) the yachts got underway. The wind took a change of direction and the first beat for every class ended up with a one leg beat to the windward mark.

In Class 1 "Tilt" (living up to her name) took a very big broach just after the start as one of many squalls went through. The Sonars had been sent with no spinnakers and were pleased of the decision when they met the squalls.

With the wind changing to West just before the start all boats managed a few tacks before the finish. By the time the last boat reached the finish the wind had swung right round to the East and just like their start was a downwind end to their day.

A coming together between Octavia and Skibbereen triggered a protest which will hopefully be solved in a gentlemanly manner. The pistols at dawn shouldn't be needed.

The Sonar Bertie was outside of Snowden at the finish and was scored DNF. All yachts finished a cold race by 2005hrs.
