21-22 May 2016
Now in its 5th year, PODD, i.e. Paignton Open for Double-handed Dinghies, the second of Paignton Sailing Club's two annual flagship events, is taking place on Sat/Sun 21st and 22nd May. Instigated to become one of the "must-do" iconic events on the annual calendar, it is the biggest open dinghy sailing event in the South West, taking place in the sheltered yet challenging waters of Torbay. In the past the event has attracted a good mix of double handers, including 49ers, Fireballs, RS800s, Merlin Rockets, RS400s, ISOs, Comet Trios, Laser 2000s, Albacores, and Tasars.
The regatta is open to all double-handed mono-hull dinghies and takes place over two days, with three races scheduled for each day. There is a reduced entry fee if you register early (payment on the day only), and included in every entry is a meal for the competitors at the Saturday night reception, which is a perfect time to catch up on the days racing and check out the results.
Paignton Sailing Club is located in Paignton Harbour on the shores of beautiful Torbay (the scenery can be very distracting!). Boats can launch at any state of the tide and the winds are generally off the land and not excessive, only steady easterlies generate big waves and add that extra dimension to the sailing.
There is easy access to the club with free parking within a few minutes walk and ample reasonably priced accommodation.
At PSC we are also renowned for hosting large regattas including Laser World Qualifiers, Topper National Championships, RS100, Scorpion and Enterprise Nationals and last year the Musto Skiffs and Supernovas entrusted us with their Nationals. This year we are hosting our first 18ft Skiff open.
So if you have a double-handed dinghy and fancy taking part in this prestigious event then PRE-ENTER NOW to save disappointment. If you have any problems or queries please email us at
P.S. You could also bring the family down and let them enjoy the multifarious attractions of one of the countries top holiday destinations, the English Riviera, with its wonderful scenery and beaches and UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark, while you indulge yourself slugging it out for the various prizes.
