Taking place over the four Sundays in April, this year's Portmore Insurance Spring Series saw over 40 keelboats take to the Western Solent in some fairly challenging conditions. We had everything from fluky light airs to gusts of 30 knots but still managed to achieve seven of the eight races planned.

This year's boats were split into 5 classes, IRC; Lymington Adjusted Handicap 1 & 2, Folkboats and the new J/80 class. The new RLymYC J/80 fleet were out in force with an average of 8 boats out per week. They are already a competitive one design fleet with four boats battling it out to take the winners podium. Chris & Hannah Neve in newly purchased "No Regrets" were eventually triumphant.

We were delighted that for the third year running Portmore Insurance continued their on-going sponsorship of the Club's Spring Series and Company Director, Paul Chapman, was on hand on the last Sunday to present the winners prizes in the bar after racing. The Royal Lymington Yacht Club are once again delighted to be building on this relationship and thank Portmore for their continued support.

A big thank you should also be giving to Simon Van de Byl, the principal race officer and his team for excellent racing to kick start what is sure to be a brilliant season.

Fleet Winners:

  • IRC Class – Boomerang – Ray Crouch & Paul Baker.
  • Lymington Adjusted Handicap 1 – Ephesian – Emma Gage & Stuart Brand.
  • Lymington Adjusted Handicap 2 – Ok Yah – Robert Young.
  • J/80 Class – Chris & Hannah Neve.
  • Folkboat Class – Crackerjack – Stuart Watson & Matthew Jones.
