23-24 April 2016
Magic Marine RS Vareo Grand Prix Event Round 1
The Great Northern Asymmetric Challenge saw attendance by five RS Vareos coming from as far as the South of England and Scotland. Races were mixed in with the asymmetric fleet of 30 boats in some extremely light wind conditions.
Day One
Race One: With a busy start line Nick Crickmore cleared the committee boat end leading from the start. The rest of the fleet was left to battle it out.
Race Two: The local guy Stephen Kirkpatrick showed the way battling with Nick. The rest of the fleet was not far behind.
Race Three: In less wind Richard lead for a while but lost out on an unlucky shift. Going into the last run Nick came through to secure first place.
Race Four: Best start of the day for Tony Bamforth who judged the pin end perfectly at pace leading the whole fleet Into a lead closely followed Cheryl Wood. Tony gained a lead on the second beat leaving the fleet for dust.
All to play for going into day two.
Day Two
With the wind looking lighter than the day before it was decided to do two races than the intended four programmed.
Race Five: Saw the fleet split going up the beat with Cheryl going out left closely followed by Nick. Building up a lead on the downwind leg Cheryl led the fleet, successfully leaving her a comfortably win.
Race Six: The last race started as race five with the fleet splitting up the beat. Halfway up the first beat was a big wind shift giving Richard a lead to the end.
Thank you to Bassenthwaite Sailing Club for holding the event and their hospitality.
