Back in 2014, when Henri Lloyd became the official technical clothing supplier for Land Rover BAR, as well as providing top quality technical clothing to the some of the best sailors in the world, we also committed to the Land Rover BAR sustainability strategy, with the objective of reducing the impact of waste and our environmental footprint.
For Land Rover BAR, as with all sports teams, significant sustainability issues arise from travel, transportation, waste production and of course energy consumption at the base. Since work began on the team's head quarters in 2014 the creation of a sustainable hub was top priority. The HQ, finished in 2015, has been built to BREEAM excellent standards, recycling 97% of the demolition materials and producing 100% renewable electricity through their 432 solar panels which cover 100% of available roof space. Henri Lloyd has also been busy and has already ensured that small problems don't mount up to become larger ones. By removing coat hangers during transportation of goods we reduce the weight of the shipment, therefore reducing the amount of fuel needed to ship them. We have also been using recycled and recyclable materials in the manufacture of our product swing tickets, as well as capturing and retaining product packaging on the shop floor for recycling, thus reducing the amount of needless rubbish going to landfill. The use of environmentally friendly packaging and new packaging techniques such as non bleached lining paper further reduces the effect of chemicals on the environment. We have also reduced the amount of packaging used on Land Rover BAR team and merchandise products which will eventually be reflected to all our ranges. We ensure where possible that the transport of team kit and merchandise from our factories is conducted in bulk and from 2016 we have also used environmentally friendly branding techniques where possible.
"All the partners commit to the team's sustainability strategy upon the start of their relationship with Land Rover BAR. The sustainability team at Land Rover BAR have been working with Henri Lloyd since the start of the partnership assisting and consulting in methods of reducing their environmental footprint. It is great to see that the changes made have already made an impact and we look forward to work with Henri Lloyd on this area going forward." Dr Susie Thomson
Going forward here at Henri Lloyd we pledge to look at alternative options to further commit to the sustainability strategy and thus in turn will reduce our environmental impact.
