Banbury Sailing Club is hosting its annual Optimist Open on Saturday 23 April, with a strong entry expected from clubs across the Midlands and further afield.

The event will provide great racing and a chance for sailors to put their winter training to the test before the Optimist inland championship at Grafham Water SC in May.

'We're expecting that many Optimist helms may appreciate the chance to take part in some fluky pond racing ahead of the inlands,' says open meeting organiser Tim Matthews, who adds: 'Banbury may be small but a very warm welcome is extended to all. And where else can spectators get so close to the competitors without getting their feet wet?!'

Registration takes place from 08:30 to 09:30 and entry is £20 per boat. The scheduled warning signal for the first race is 10:25 and the intention is to run up to six races.

A hot lunch will be available and there will be separate results and prizes for regatta fleet entrants, along with a coach boat for the back of the fleet.

The sailing club is located at Boddington Reservoir, seven miles north of Banbury.
