Larks at the Waldringfield Easter Egg

For the first time ever Waldringfield Sailing Club's prestigious Easter Egg Open Meeting was moved from the traditional Easter weekend to two weeks later in the hope of better weather.

This decision paid dividends with two days of blustery force 4 racing including a glimpse of sunshine.

The event went down to the wire and with the top 3 boats tied on points and countback, so the tie was ultimately broken on last race result. Alan Krailing and Hannah edge scored two firsts and a second to lead overnight.

They were overhauled by Harry Pynn and Gemma Cook on Sunday. Emma White's long awaited return to these shores was less vocal than anticipated, showing that the father-daughter team are still a force to be reckoned with.

The Lark once again proved to be the ideal family racing boat with 5 out of the seven boats represented by family teams. Ed and Maddie Harris proved the importance of a spot of boat tuning and were regularly seen at the front of the fleet. Their parents Geoff and Maggie Harris were hot on their tails.

The weekend saw a welcome return to the Larks for Glen Enkel who was crewing for Fiona Gray. Chris and Cathy Fish's challenge was short lived as they broke their boom in race 2.

With all to play for in the final race Krailing and Edge led off the line from Pynn and Cook. After several beats against the tide Pynn and Cook passed them on the second lap gybe mark and held the lead to the finish.

Thanks to race officer Ian Videlo for efficient race management and to the many volunteers who made the event possible.
