The UK's most promising young sailors, windsurfers and powerboaters were celebrated today as the winners of the RYA Regional Youth Champion Awards were revealed at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show.
The awards were presented at London's magnificent Alexandra Palace by three-time Finn World Champion Giles Scott in recognition of the outstanding achievement and performance of young people across the range of activities the RYA represents.
Giles said: "The RYA youth programmes are the building blocks for the future and have helped all of us get where we are today. Recognising the sailors who have excelled at a young age is vital and helps to energise the sport.
"I hope to see these sailors go on to achieve a great deal in our sport."
Amongst the winners were 29er World and European Champions Mimi El-Khazindar and Emma Loveridge in the Southern region, whilst powerboater Ben Jelf picked up the award for the Eastern region.
Ben said: "The past year's success have been down to the amount of training and effort that has been put in. Winning this award means a lot as recognition for all the work I've put in. Hopefully I can keep up the success going forward."
