The 2016 Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships is arguably the highlight of the 2015/ 2016 off the beach (OTB) calendar for our sailors. Not only is it the grand finale of the 2015/2016 OTB Marine Victorian Sailing Cup but we will see a number of sailors transitioning from one class to another.

This year the 2016 Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships is again being held at Mornington Yacht Club and comprises of a Coaching Clinic from the 5 – 7th April and a regatta from the 9 – 10th April 2016. This event consecutively receives accolades for its coaching program; and this year's line-up vaunts Olympians, World Champions and vetted international coaches including all-star names like Sarah Ogilvie, Krystal Weir, Rob Brewer and Tony Bull just to name a few. In the coming weeks Yachting Victoria will be running a "Meet the Coaches" campaign through their website and Facebook Page.

Tony Bull, nominee for the 2015 Yachting Australia and Victorian Sports coaching awards, has been coaching the International Cadets at this regatta since it became a pathway class two years ago. The two time World Champion coach explains the importance of attending this regatta:

"This regatta lays down the foundations for the 2016/17 season. Skippers and crew get to build a relationship and develop the skills necessary to compete on a national and international circuit. It's rare to find a regatta that promotes coaching while racing.

"Being able to coach while in the midst of a race is a very powerful tool. We always encourage to train as you race and race as you train so being able to coach while actually racing really enforces this mindset."

This regatta will also announce the winner(s) of the Yachting Victoria's 'Happy Snaps' competition and the host club for 2017/18. Clubs have the chance to win a $1000 Gill voucher by submitting a photo with 6 or more junior and/or youth sailors enjoying the sailing life. Photos need to be sent to by the 1st of March with the winner announced on the 10th of April at this regatta.

The Notice of Race, Schedule and Online Entry for the 2016 Club Marine Victorian Junior and Youth Championships will be available in the next week via the Yachting Victoria website www.yachtingvictoria.com.au and the Yachting Victoria's Facebook Page.
