Making the most of gusty, sunny conditions
On the 30th of January, the Eastern Teras had their 3rd training session of the year. Twenty-five boats and five coaches set out on to the shifty, gusty conditions at Alton Water.
Splitting into three groups the main aim of the session was to focus on downwind sailing with particular focus on the gybes. Despite a few too many capsizes towards the beginning of the session as it progressed conditions got lighter and the quality of sailing improved until the downward legs were looking extremely competitive.
Putting the previous training into practice the Teras set off for some close racing to end off a great productive day on the water. Thank you to Alton Water for their continued support of the Eastern squad.
The Eastern Squad trains regularly on Saturday afternoons during the winter in preparation for the Eastern Traveller series, national and international events through the summer. The 2016 traveller series kicks off with the RS Tera Eastern Championships at Royal Harwich Yacht Club on 7th and 8th of May. Other venues hosting the popular Train and Race weekends making up the rest of the series this summer will be Brightlingsea, Aldeburgh, Bough Beech, Burnham and Alton Water.
