Peter Andreae Trophy at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club

by Stuart Jardine, PRO 28 Dec 2015 07:46 GMT 27 December 2015

Another windy day at Lymington greeted the Junior Sailors at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club for the annual Peter Andreae Trophy in Lymington Scows where the helms and crews must be under 21 years on that day. The wind averaging around 20 knots and gusts near 30 knots many of the younger sailors opted wisely to crew.

As a result the Fleet was only seven strong, it was decided to have two short practice races for the crew to settle down and then three longer races for the final and to complete the event by 1120 am before the Town Club raced for their Hunt Cup. This was achieved with seconds to spare.

The three races were dominated by Vita Heathcote winning all three races, although she only just caught young Henry Heathcote who had been recovering from capsizing in the previous two races and with two young ladies helping him to bail out right up to gun, crossing the line three up, first and fast after the leading four boats were all over the line and having to return, a lead they held until only a few boats lengths short of the finish when Vita got through. Nik Froud our eldest sailor kindly agreed to take Sam Griffiths rather than leave him ashore.

Overall Results:

1st Vita Heathcote, 3pts
2nd William Heathcote, 10pts
3rd Nik Froud & Sam Griffith, 10pts
4th Tim Hire & Tom Wharmby, 12pts
5th Kate Wharmby & Amy Hire, 13pts
6th Henry Heathcote, 14pts (Ella and Emma crew in race three)
7th Ella Lightwood Emma Breeze, 21pts

Another great day, assisted by the regulars, particularly Jane Clegg and Jane Pitt-Pitts in the registration and out on the Pontoon Katie Ould, Ado Jardine, John Evans and Robin Marks plus Ann Brunskill with camera and afloat Vince Sutherland mark laying and Nick Brunshill in the rescue RIB.
