Liga Layar Malaysia at Port Klang - Day 2

by Norzuhaira Ruhanie 14 Nov 2015 14:40 GMT 13-15 November 2015

Top of the league for Hazwan

Hazwan Hazim Dermawan is sitting pretty on top of the standings at the end of day two of Liga Layar Malaysia (LLM) Port Klang. The skipper for hazOne Racing Team made light of his opponents to win all his races so far, aiming for the bigger prize of a chance to compete in the Monsoon Cup Malaysia.

"We are using this regatta as training to prepare ourselves for Monsoon Cup Malaysia, and I feel confident of my chances as the boats to be used in the tournament are similar to the Platu 25 we are using in the LLM," Hazwan said.

Sahril Abdul Razak of Siput Racing Team is second currently, the Selangor representative won three of their six races today but a win against the scoreboard leader remains an elusive goal.

"As a team, we don't train regularly, it showed in our performance and I still haven't been able to beat Hazwan so we'll try again tomorrow," said Sahril.

In third place is Megat Ahmad Aslam Megat Azman at the helm of Bakat Racing Team who recorded two wins and four losses today.

"We were leading against Siput in round robin three but we had a bit of bad luck with our bowman which cost us the race. Our boat handling could be improved as my crew is still inexperienced but we will give our best," Megat Aslam commented on his team's performance.

Meanwhile, Mohd Rashidee Shariff and Muara Watersport Team recorded their first win against Sahril in their second race of the day but was not able to maintain the momentum in challenging race conditions.

Wind was slow to pick up in the morning but conditions were better by midday and officials managed to complete two round robins before calling the day off when the current became too strong to continue.

"We managed to win against Sahril so that was great but my team were tired and made a lot of mistakes in the third round robin," Rashidee said.

Races will resume tomorrow with the knockout rounds.

Round-robin standings: (after nine races)

Hazwan Hazim Dermawan (hazOne Racing Team) – 9-0
Sahril Abdul Razak (Siput Racing Team) – 5-4
Megat Ahmad Aslam Megat Azman (Bakat Racing Team) – 3-6
Mohd Rashidee Shariff (Muara Watersport Team) – 1-8
