Pendennis Shipyard is once more preparing for the Pendennis Cup superyacht sailing regatta, with the dates now confirmed as the 27th June – 2nd July, 2016. This biennial event has become known as one of the most competitive and fun regattas on the superyacht racing circuit, with the four days of racing supported by a lively social scene to promote the very best of Cornish cuisine and entertainment.

The event attracts a fleet of 10-15 yachts and over 600 guests to Falmouth during the four days of racing, providing a stunning spectacle in Falmouth Bay. The diverse range of yachts has previously included modern yachts such as Christopher, Athos and Velacarina racing alongside classics such as Adela, Adix, Altair, Mariette and Kelpie.

Over the past few years Falmouth has gained a pedigree for hosting world-class regattas, including the Finn Gold Cup to the mighty J-Class fleet, and of course the Pendennis Cup which is now in its fifth year.

Cornish waters have a reputation for providing unpredictable conditions which challenge the most experienced professional race crews, who fly in from all over the world to participate.

Managed by experienced race officer Peter Craig, supported by Royal Cornwall Yacht Club and RCYC Events, next year's racing will be aligned to the new ORCsy (Offshore Racing Congress superyacht) rule which was established at the beginning of 2015 to create a higher level of professionalism and transparency within competitive superyacht racing.

The Pendennis Cup is open to any modern or classic sailing yacht over 24m, presenting a unique opportunity for Owners to race their vessels, and timed to provide the perfect addition to any Northern European cruising season. As Charlie Wroe, Captain of Mariette affirmed: "This regatta really is a lovely one to attend. The sailing is always good and the shore side programme is very crew and Owner friendly."

As the competitors and event schedules are confirmed, details will be posted on the regatta website www.thependenniscup.com. Any yachts interested in participating can contact Tristan Rowe - - Refit Sales Manager at Pendennis Shipyard.

Both fleets still tight As Wednesday dawned the mist cleared but the difficulty now was to be much lighter and changeable winds. The start was delayed by half an hour whilst the much lighter winds settled on a direction and picked up to a decent 10 knots gusting to 15. Posted on 5 Jul 2012
