Spring sailing might be the last thing on your mind right now, but Sperry Charleston Race Week 2016 is only six months away. So now is the time to line up all the logistics and ensure that you'll enjoy the best, most fun regatta possible.
Here's what you need to know:
We've got a newly retooled website:
www.charlestonraceweek.com, where you'll find all the important information.
Regatta registration is now open, and if you sign up before December 31, you can take advantage of the $50 early-registration discount.
Our event venue – Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina – now has a brand new hotel: The Beach Club. That means 92 additional waterfront rooms will be available for you (along with two more pools, a bocce court, and several extensive patios), and if you book your accommodations at the resort before December 31, you can enjoy a 10-percent discount.
For PHRF racers, we'll be implementing time-on-time scoring to keep the competition as tight and fair as possible. In addition, we'll be offering Enhanced PHRF if there is sufficient interest among competitors. (The official details regarding Enhanced PHRF will be posted on the US Sailing's website.) Race Week will be the first major regatta to offer this. Think of it as one of those tweaks we make every year to keep making the event better and better for our competitors.
Oh, and we're also looking into an approach for rating larger boats that will utilize ORR parameters and VPPs to help standardize the rating process.
We've also teamed up with SAP to offer an individual boat tracking app for boats on the offshore courses. (More information on that to come soon.)
