8th November heralds the start of this year's Blithfield Barrel Winter Series. The first round has always been a massive event and we are looking forward to seeing some of the leading lights in the Midlands coming to do battle with us!
Blithfield Sailing Club is polishing it's glasses, scrubbing the decks and ironing their race flags, preparing to welcome everyone to this years Barrel Winter Series. 4 days of intense but fun competition spread across the winter months, expect diverse weather conditions, large diverse fleets and to sail among the elite as they hone their skills ready for the new season.
If you're like me and don't get the chance to rub shoulders with National, Inland and European champions on the water, then do it in the bar with a glass of local Freedom in hand. This year promises to be hotter than ever so come along, see if you can prise the Barrel away from Chris Gould.
There will be 8 races over 4 days with 6 to count. Races start at 12:00 and 14:00. Entry fee is £15 per day or £40 for the series, why not join us for the whole winter? This is £92 (Singlehanders £71). This includes the entry to the Barrel series and boat parking.
All dinghies above PY 860 are welcome and starts will be split in two at PY 1026, by popular request to open the racing.
On shore there will be free tea and coffee for all competitors, and two free raffle entries per day, plus the usual banter and warmth of the clubhouse.
Further details and directions are on the club website: www.blithfield.org.uk
We look forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks time! Subsequent Barrel weekends are 6th December, 10th January and 14th February.
