Watches made by the Clipper Race's Official Timekeeper, Elliot Brown, were presented to the 12 Race Skippers and the company's chosen Ambassador before they set off on the 40,000 nautical mile circumnavigation on Monday.

Elliot Brown Co-founder Ian Elliot gave out the watches to all Skippers, Chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, CEO William Ward, Race Director Justin Taylor, Deputy Race Director Mark Light and Recruitment and Development Director David Cusworth at a ceremony in the Race Village at St Katharine Docks on Saturday.

Da Nang – Viet Nam round the world crew member Matthew Ogg was also presented with the Clipper Race crew member watch – the Canford 202-015 watch. Matt will be the ambassador for Elliot Brown, the race's Official Timekeeper.

Built to go the distance during the circumnavigation, Matthew, 28 from London, will test the durability of the watch in the race's extreme conditions.

Matthew will represent the British brand, sharing his adventure by writing blogs and sending back videos and images in his role as ambassador while he sports the timepiece.

"Life is an adventure and we only have so much time - you can't buy it back! I am privileged to represent Elliot Brown during the extraordinary challenge," says Matthew.

"Endurance is putting yourself on the line and taking whatever is thrown at you to achieve something powerful and inspiring, and the positive mental attitude such experience cultivates.

"It's the tough moments, dark moments, surprising moments, the lighter moments. Whatever the time, whatever the weather. Endurance is at the very core of human spirit, and I look forward to wearing my Elliot Brown Clipper Race watch during those moments and seeing it go the distance with us."

Elliot Brown Co-founder Ian Elliot said: "We picked Matthew because he's our sort of character; amenable, capable with a quiet confidence who doesn't take himself too seriously. His application struck a chord with us and really appealed to our sense of humour – Matt printed and cut out a paper watch, then posed with it in a number of daft images.

"We can't wait to experience the race via Matt's on-board experiences."

Ian encouraged the Skippers to give the watch a tough a test as possible as they battle Mother Nature during six ocean crossings over the next 11 months.

Elliot Brown is producing 1000 special edition Clipper Race crew member watches. They retail at £395 and are available from www.elliotbrownwatches.com
