Whether you'd like to become more knowledgeable about the rules, improve your individual or team skills, or become more tactical, then RYA Publications have the perfect title to help take your racing to the next level.

With plenty of regattas having taken place over the summer months, Cowes Week, the Rolex Fastnet Race and plenty still to come, minds will be focused on club racing and especially how to move up the fleet!

RYA Publications have a comprehensive range of titles, split into the three sections, available in print and eBook formats, to help you get the most out of your races. Learn the racing rules and use them to your advantage.

The racing rules are a complex but extremely important aspect of all racing. With the RYA's range of books, learn, understand and use these rules to your advantage.

Know the rules

Every four years the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) are revised by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the international authority for the sport. The RYA has two titles available to cover the rules.

RYA Handy Guide to Racing Rules 2013 – 2016 (YR7) (print and eBook) - this pocket guide is a simplified view of the basic racing rules and proves an essential read for anyone new to racing. It helps cover the main racing scenarios and other key areas, including principles, when boats meet, penalty turns, propulsion, protesting and the race committee.

RYA Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 – 2016 (YR1) (print only) - the essential reference text for every racing sailor, club and race official. It covers definitions of terms, the RYA Racing Charter, time and speed charts, race signals and international code flags in a very handy, pocket-sized publication. It also includes coloured pages to quickly identify and access the section on 'When Boats Meet' to help racers keep out of trouble. It is also the only publication which includes the RYA National Prescriptions, which are essential to understand for racing in the UK.

Understand the rules

RYA Racing Rules Explained (e-G80) (eBook only) - the complete guide to understanding the Racing Rules of Sailing. The eBook format allows for very simple navigation and linking between sections to help you find the information you need.

Racing Rules are compulsory for all racing sailors the world over, and this title provides explanations of all the rules through clear text and diagrams.

Suitable for competitors, race officials and anyone who wishes to increase their knowledge of the rules of racing. It is comprehensive, with seven sections that contain rules for every competitor, including fundamental rules, conduct of a race, race organisation, protests, redress hearings, misconduct and appeals.

Use them to your advantage

RYA Racing Rules and Cases eBook (e-RRC) (eBook only) - the perfect companion in a protest situation.

A revolutionary step forward in the application of the racing rules and cases, this digital rules edition has been developed to incorporate case books (RYA and ISAF), ISAF Q&As and the team, and match racing call books. It also has the ability to set rule modes (i.e. rules only, board racing, team racing, match racing or all amendments) into one cleverly interactive, hyperlinking rules and cases engine.

Being able to very quickly identify any cases relevant to a particular rule, search for specific cases or even a case that may be relevant to a text search will put you steps ahead whenever a protest may occur.

Develop your racing skills

RYA Start to Race (G66) (print and eBook) - essential reading for anyone beginning to race but also offers a great deal for those wanting to further their racing skills as it talks you through getting into racing in a logical and enjoyable manner and makes sure that nothing seems like a daunting task.

Topics covered include: top turns, trimming for speed, racing with spinnakers and champion advice. This book is packed with plenty of information and tips making it a real gem for all budding racing sailors.

RYA Crew to Win (G39) (print and eBook) - if you're racing in a team, learn how to work more effectively together. If you want to sail faster, smarter and win races, then Joe Glanfield covers all the technical essentials needed to succeed in crewed boats.

Topics covered include: creating a winning team, tactics and strategy, event preparation and high performance dinghy sailing. This book is ideal for those wanting to create a winning team!

Be tactical! Learn how to get ahead of the fleet

RYA Tactics eBook (e-G40) (eBook only) - this key title can really help you to sail better and win races no matter what your level of racing experience is. As an eBook, it is also enhanced with animations, videos and accompanying audio to support key tactical examples.

Packed with easy to follow diagrams, colour photographs and those all-important coach tips, it breaks down the race to tell you exactly what to think about, how and when to do it, and, most importantly, why you should be doing it! It takes you logically and holistically through each section. If you take your racing seriously you cannot be without this book.

RYA Solent Race Strategy (print and eBook) - racing in the Solent? Then look no further than the RYA Solent Race Strategy book, an expert's guide to race strategy and tactics for one of the world's most famous (and busiest) yacht racing venues.

Focusing on the two main race areas in the Solent (northern & southern), the title clearly shows, through text and chart illustrations, wind and tide direction for each wind segment on each race area. With RYA Solent Race Strategy in one hand, your tidal atlas in the other and a reliable weather forecast, much of your race planning can be done before you get out on the water.

So whether you're just starting to race or are a seasoned racer, the RYA has a publication to help you succeed whatever your racing level.
