DAME 2015 proceeds awarded to Sailability

METSTRADE show organiser RAI Amsterdam has announced that the proceeds of this year's DAME Design Award will go to the Dutch charity Sailability. The foundation enables disabled people to independently enjoy sailing via a nationwide network of partner yacht clubs. Sailability was also the beneficiary of the DAME 2013 proceeds and the METSTRADE Exhibition Committee was impressed with the way in which the funds had been used.
After a comprehensive analysis of the marine-related public charities which applied to receive the registration proceeds from the 25th anniversary edition of the DAME, the METSTRADE Exhibition Committee selected Sailability. This charity used the €11,500 it received after the announcement of the DAME Winner 2013 award to buy a new Hanse 303 sailing yacht for its fleet, which was specially adapted and christened METS.
"As the organisers of the METSTRADE show we were very proud of this tangible benefit achieved with the contribution of the DAME 2013 participants," commented RAI Amsterdam's maritime manager Irene Dros. "The METSTRADE Exhibition Committee has also been impressed with the fact that Sailability has been running for 12 years and has more than 300 volunteers, plus a board of six people. No one involved in the charity is paid a salary, which speaks volumes for their dedication and commitment to the disabled."
The amount of this year's donation will be announced and the DAME funds will be presented during the Breakfast Briefing on Tuesday 17 November, the official opening day of the METSTRADE show.
