Challenger Welsh Championship at Llyn Brenig Sailing Club

by Richard Johnson 30 Jul 2015 16:48 BST 18-19 July 2015

Strong winds in North Wales on the Saturday made it feel colder than the 12 degrees ground temperature. Big gusts made racing difficult so the course was moved in the afternoon to a more sheltered position. At the day's end Val Millward was leading Graham Hall by 2 points, Jack Alderdice was third, Diana Faulks 4th and Christine Spray had enjoyed a quick swim when a big gust overbalanced the (borrowed) boat. She came ashore in a RIB, cold and wet but otherwise ok.

The wind moderated on Sunday, making racing easier but Val continued her good form to win both races, closely followed by Graham. Jack and Diana were also close, with Diana winning their private race but Jack's better scores the previous day put him two points ahead overall. Christine decided to consolidate the weekend by sunbathing whilst the borrowed yellow Llyn Brenig boat had its annual fettle. Note: we must remember to sort it out BEFORE the racing next year!

Overall Results:

1st Val Millward (Rutland)
2nd Graham Hall (Rutland)
3rd Jack Alderdice (Peterborough)
4th Diana Faulks (Rutland)
5th Christine Spray (Rutland)
