Over 70 students from Pendle Community High School and College from Nelson enjoyed a week's sailing at Bolton Sailing Club. A thoroughly inspiring week was experienced by pupils with a wide spectrum of disabilities, in fluctuating weather conditions.
All the needs were met by the provisions and facilities of Bolton Sailing Club who are an accredited RYA Sailability centre.
A valuable and maybe a once in a lifetime experience for some was conveyed by Timothy, a year 10 student, "It was awesome!"
The week has now become an annual event and is now an integral part of the curriculum. Over the years it has given hundreds of students a rare opportunity to enjoy the experience of sailing. Kevin one of the teaching assistants said, "The body language and facial expressions say far more than words! Unique and exceptional!"
Many thanks must go to Bolton Sailing Club and the priceless time given up by the volunteers who make it all possible. Lenn, one of the volunteers, said, "The challenges of sailing are accepted and adopted with a smile."
Here's to many more years of this special week continuing with the excitement, enjoyment and worthwhile experience sailing gives to these young people.
