Despite the strong winds forecast 12 boats entered for the GP14 Open on the weekend of 18/29 July, part of the Northern Bell series, and held in conjunction with the Flying Fifteens.

The start on Saturday was delayed by 1 hour to allow the wind to ease and this persuaded 9 boats to take to the water. Alan Jones provided the most entertainment by capsizing on the start line just prior to the first race, and then proceeding to capsize immediately after finishing the second race.

At the front of the fleet thing were somewhat closer with Andy Smith/Phil Hodgkins taking the first race and Dave and Lynn Lawson the second leaving the Lawsons as overnight leaders.

The wind on Sunday was a little lighter tempting a few more boats on the water. Smith/Hodgkins won races 3 & 4 leaving them to finish no worse than second to secure the trophy.

This they duly did despite the Lawsons winning the last race to finish just one point behind. Andy Tunnicliffe finished a close third with Mike Cowan crewing on Saturday and Michelle Tunnicliffe on Sunday.

Prizes were presented by the Commodore's wife, Kirstie Somerville.
