Get afloat with the RYA at the Louis Vuitton ACWS Portsmouth

by James Ayles 10 Jul 2015 11:20 BST 23-26 July 2015

The RYA is proud to be an official stakeholder of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series Portsmouth from 23-26 July.

If you're going to the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series (ACWS) event in Portsmouth this month, make sure you visit the RYA stand for everything you need to get afloat this summer.

Discover the appeal of the sport on dry land with free activities to inspire the whole family including the thrill of interactive sailing, windsurfing and powerboating simulators. Feel the breeze across your face as the waves lap against the side of the boat – without getting a drop of water on you!

Fancy experiencing what it's like to be the next Ben Ainslie? Wear a harness and clip onto the RYA's unique trapeze rig or test your strength and take on the Lewmar winch grinder challenge.

On the stand, you can also have a look first-hand at a variety of power and sail boats, from a catamaran to the Olympic-class Laser and the junior Optimist dinghy. The RYA's team of experts will be able to show and explain just how affordable and entertaining sailing can be, with a boat available for every budget or purpose. They'll be able to answer any questions you have about sailing, windsurfing or powerboating and help you take the next steps to getting afloat. Throughout the event, you'll also be able to hang out with members of the British Sailing Team.

"We're delighted to be attending the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World series and showcasing the sport this summer in Portsmouth. It's a fantastic event to have in this country and we saw during the last cup how much it can captivate both sailors and non-sailors alike. We hope that, being on the waterfront and watching these boats compete will inspire people of all ages to have a go!" explains RYA Sport Development Manager, Duncan Truswell.

"The ACWS shows just what an exhilarating and dynamic sport sailing is, but the great thing about boating is the range of activities on offer from high-speed foiling catamarans to relaxing with family and friends. There really is a boat for all purposes and all budgets and you don't have to spend a fortune to go sailing – I hope this event will encourage people to talk to us and get started in this fantastic sport."

The RYA stand will be located in the Waterfront Festival Arena near the western entrance on Clarence Esplanade.

Don't miss out on the summers must have ticket. Both America's Cup World Series tickets (including free Waterfront Festival Arena tickets and paid-to-view Fanzone Tickets for all four days), and Portsmouth Live! evening tickets are available via www.ticketmaster.co.uk/acwsportsmouth
