DELIVERING PERFORMANCE !

P&B have a long running history of supplying boats ready to go to a championship winning specification and this is a service we provide for many classes. These specifications are the result of constant development made through our pro-active staff who race in classes we supply along with customer feedback.
When you buy a boat from P&B you can be confident that it will be completed to the very same standard as all our race winners and is tuned and calibrated leaving you to do the bit you enjoy, the sailing!

As an important part of our business we endeavour to supply all new boats to an out of the box race winning standard and our Boat Sales Manager, Oliver Wells, is on hand to guide you through the process and keep you up to date throughout from order to delivery. We will also work tirelessly to deliver your completed boat in time for the first race no matter how tight the deadline.
Last week P&B South took on the monumental task of completing a new I14 from bare hull to finished boat in 3.5 days working through the night to make sure the owners made it to POW week. Ordered last minute this is an extreme example but shows our dedication to getting you on the start line. Whilst this is early days for the pairing of Neale Jones and Ed Fitzgerald they have recorded good results at POW week and finished 6th in the POW Cup race, qualifying Ed for the crews union, I hope his initiation was as quiet and sensible as is often the case with the I14 fleet!
If you are looking to order a new boat then make P&B your first call for the best in service and finished products. Oli Wells 01604 592808 (Northampton), Ben McGrane 01489 577748 (Fareham).

CHAMPIONSHIP READY?

Hard to believe it is already July and we are all but about to start the championship season. So how ready are you?
It’s important to maintain your boats continually and it is all too easy to go sailing each week, put the boat back in its space and then at the Championships or after discover a problem that leads to a failure or a lack of speed so here is our must checks lisrt to be on the line ready to win.

Hull and Foils

  • When did you last roll your boat over? Get the boat on its side, remove the trolley and check everything over. Make sure the centreboard and slot gasket are immaculate. Does the hull have any cracks or dings? Is the trailing edge sharp and unmarked. Any imperfections can directly impact your speed.
  • Is your boat air tight? Identify leaks and fix them before they become progressively worse.
  • Are all blocks working, no strange noises, no systems seem harder to pull than they did before? Everything spins freely?
  • All ropes are in good conditions? Worn in so grippy but not tired enough to need replacing mid-regatta?
  • All fixings are tight, no spinning screws or loose bolts? Remove all play and cure any holes without thread before the attached fitting removes itself from the boat.
  • Check the rudder, stock, pintles and gudgeons are in good working order, no signs of fatigue and  that the rudder is immaculate.

Rig and sails
  • Are your sails free from damage and still of a competitive age? If you aren’t sure than ask the opinion of your sailmaker.
  • Check all halyards especially wear points and tie off points up the mast like 2:1 dead ends.
  • Check all wires, make sure there are no broken strands, pay particular attention to turning points, bearing points and all terminals.
  • Check trapeze lines aren’t worn and make sure trapeze rings aren’t showing signs of fatigue.
  • Is the mast free of any permanent bend, check it is straight and none of the terminal points are cracking. Check all rivets are still tight and replace where needed.
  • When did you last tune the boat? Go through all your settings, make sure nothing has changed and all is as it should be.

I’d also recommend checking your trolley and trailer as it is most likely about to do its biggest trip of the year having quite possibly not moved for some time. I always get my bearings checked annually after having a set fail on a RIB trailer in the middle of France. Lastly check all your sailing kit, special attention to boots, gloves and trapeze harnesses. Anything that sees a lot of wear, it might be your old trusted lucky piece of clothing but it won’t feel so lucky when it suddenly gives up the ghost!
