27-28 June 2015
This weekend (June 27th & 28th) the Lightning368's head a long way up the M6 to Ullswater for the 2015 Lightning368 Northern Champs.
After the hurricane battering that the fleet received last time out at Manor Park, there are more than a few looking for some smoother sailing this time out as the class spends two days camped out at this magnificent club for the five-race championship event.
Also forming part of the 2015 Lightning368 Grand Prix series, the event should see many of the usual main protagonists - whether front of fleet or 'not-so-front-of-fleet'.
Already a close fight at the top, Simon Hopkins is set to make the long trip up to the 'proper' North from Essex, to continue his fight with Lightning legend and current table-topper Paul White.
With racing due to get underway after 1pm on Saturday, it will no doubt mean the usual Lightning get-together on Friday night - and, doubtless, Bryan's now famous wine pouring.
Queen of ceremonies Julie Archer has promised an evening quiz amongst Saturday nights entertainments, before an earlier start on Sunday for the three final races.
Ullswater YC is a superb club and always welcoming to visitors, so all of you Lightning helms out there should make a bee-line for this event.
In addition, several of us will also be taking part in the following weekends 'Lord Birkett Trophy' and the club has agreed to allow anyone also competing in this event to leave their boat at the club. As an aside, for the Lightning helms that are taking part in the Birkett, Emma has kindly purchased a lovely trophy for you to battle for!
A truly spectacular setting, a lovely club, a weekend of camping in the company of fellow Lightningistas....what more could you want?
Ullswater YC is very easily accessible from the M6, more info here: www.ullswateryachtclub.org
If you're interested in the Lightning, then just come on down and say hello, check out the boats and its people doing what we do best - sailing and having fun.
