North Wales Club Youth Racing Circuit at Port Dinorwic Sailing Club

by Ken Newing 23 Jun 2015 20:48 BST 14 June 2015

Overcast skies and a light South Westerly greeted the 25 crews competing the second round (out of 5) of the North Wales Series. But that soon changed and the wind dropped to nothing and rain was in the air, just as it was on the Training Day organised by RYA Cymru Wales at the club on the Saturday.

Step Forward Jo Powell, Club Commodore, who kept the competitors (and a few others) entertained with newspaper origami and paper boat races whilst we waited for the wind to arrive. And arrive it did; a fresh F3 to 4 North Westerly (as forecast). With clouds clearing and the wind increasing coupled with a weak neap tide it made for ideal conditions and four races were held on the Optimist course and five for the Handicap and Topper Cl asses.

Next round of the series is Sunday 5th July at a venue new to North Walian sailors – the 'state of the art' Colwyn Bay Watersports complex - should be interesting. Whilst the Port Dinorwic race team are preparing for this weekend's Solo Class Open on Sunday 28th June.
