MIDSUMMER IS HERE !

Midsummer is here and finally the weather and the water temperatures are warming up!
This means that it is time to add that summer sailing wear to your kit bag.

The Zhik Superwarm and Pryde Firewire suits are winter and spring staples for many but now the sun is out it is time for their skinnier cousins. Zhik have re worked their microfleece skiff kit over the winter and the result is superb. The new microfleece Skiff suits look the biz, they are stretchier and have a great fleecy inner (as the name suggests). This suit is the choice of many Olympic level sailors and one of the reasons is the 3D body mapped cut and the addition of the loo rip in the mens suit, which makes life easier for those long days on the water.
The Pryde Elite Raceskin Longjohn is similar to the Zhik suit but the smooth skin outer sheds water reducing cooling from evaporation; the stretch in this suit needs to be seen to be believed.
Gill and Crewsaver do great summer Longjohns both at an easier price. Crewsaver make 3mm and 0.7mm versions, we have found the shoulder Velcro opening on the crewsaver suits makes them easier to don.

On the Top!
There is a bewildering array of neo tops, spray tops, and thermal tops to choose from. Our favourite wetsuit tops include the Pryde Elite Race Skin, made from the same super stretch fabric as the longjohn it is uber comfortable; Gul, Gill and Zhik produce great titanium lined neoprene tops which double as a spray top and thermal layer but avoid the associated bagginess.
Thermal spray tops are a great choice for days when the sun doesn’t shine. We love the latest offering from Musto, The Aqua Top is made from a four way stretch fabric that sheds water and a fleecy inner for added warmth.
Spray tops might be deemed old school but your kit is not complete without them. Just in is Gul’s latest offering, the restyled Ballistic top which is breathable, waterproof and good looking. On Summer days we often pop these into a stow bag, but by the end of a day on the water we will be glad of their windproof warmth.

LAYER IT UP!
In the old days we were taught that less under your wetsuit was more. With the development of water shedding and hydro phobic materials this is no longer the case. Decent fast drying thermal layers will add warmth and comfort. Hydrophobic layers from Gill and Zhik are ideal and the Gul Evotherm Longjohn is an old favourite that can be worn under a wetsuit for added comfort. Top tip: These thermals dry fast so are nice and warm for day two of a regatta.

Kit Of The Week!

KIT of the WEEK!

Each week one of the P&B team will be looking into their kit bag and giving us an item that they simply wouldn't sail without!
After the mixed conditions at the weekend! Tom Stewart and Dave wade have made an essential kit of the week. Often forgotten the old reliable telltales for any sailor! After teaching the youth sailing class   how to use tell tails to improve their understanding of sail setting Dave and Tom will be making sure that their kids boats have tell tails on all their sails.
