After poor weather for the first three sessions, the Get Racing group at Draycote Water sailing Club were rewarded with sun and breeze for the latest instalment on Sunday 7 June and the number attending saw a turnout of 11 boats and 15 sailors of all ages.

The mother and son duo of Heather and Sam Guppy lead the fleet and had close racing throughout the first race with positions frequently changing but with Sam in his Laser 4.7 taking line honours and also keeping this position on corrected time.

Heather's Laser Radial ended up 4th on corrected time, giving way to newcomers Fred Barry in his Topper and Guy Jewkes crewed by William Puchy in their Feva. Others making their first appearance were Ethan Cheshire finishing a creditable 5th in his Pico, Carla Fickling and Josh Davies, handicapped by a reef in their Feva and Sophie Fickling, Lydia Roberts and Emily Talbot in Picos, the latter unfortunately suffering early gear failure.

It was good to see a number joining from the Friday and Saturday junior sessions.

Five boats went out for the second race in which Guy and will had an excellent start in their Feva and after a close tussle on the water with Nigel and Aaron in their RS500, crossed the line ahead to also win on corrected time from the Feva of Josh and Carla.

The next session will be on Sunday 5 July – all members interested in starting to race welcome, arrive rigged and ready at 10am.
