Sailing book 'Chasing Shadows' airs at Belfast Book Festival

by Thomas Jobling 7 Jun 2015 12:12 BST 8-14 June 2015

Irish author and well known yachtsman, Thomas Jobling, is to be part of next week's Belfast Book Festival. He has been invited to talk about his acclaimed debut novel 'Chasing Shadows' on Monday 8th June at the Crescent Arts Centre.

The Larne based novelist will be in lunch-time conversation with Debbie McGrory on the opening day of the Festival as part of the 'Self Publishing Salon' series of events being hosted at the Queen's University road venue.

Thomas said; "I am delighted, if not somewhat surprised to have been invited to partake in this most prestigious of festivals." he continued, "Self publishing has become a major route to market for new writers and it is wonderful that the festival team have recognised this. Further, it strikes me that this may well the first time that a 'sailing book' has filtered itself into the mainstream. Although apprehensive, I am really excited with the whole concept, and of course, the opportunities the day will no doubt present."

The Belfast Book Festival is a celebration of Northern Ireland's love of all hardback, paperback and e-books. With artists and authors representing many key themes including literature, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, sport, coming of age, art and music, there's something for everyone. It will run from 8th to 14th June at a number of city centre locations.

Keith Acheson, Festival Director said: "This year's Festival is the biggest and best yet, having grown to encompass almost 90 events over the course of the week. It will once again feature the very best in local and internationally renowned authors and we are thrilled that from the world of poetry, Paul Muldoon, one of the Crescent Arts Centre's patrons, Sir Andrew Motion and BBC Radio 3's The Verb presenter, Ian McMillan, will be making appearances alongside Doire Press from Connemara, local poets including Paula Cunningham, Jean Bleakney and Moyra Donaldson. Our Poetry Slam will be making a raucous return on Friday 13th June."

The festival catalogue is now available either in hard copy or online at www.belfastbookfestival.com. Thomas Jobling's novel was reviewed recently in Y&Y by Bob Fisher who wrote that 'it was the best sailing book he'd read in a very long time.'
