Audi Melges 20 Audi-Tron Sailing Series at Lake Garda - Overall

by International Audi Melges 20 Class Association 1 Jun 2015 08:32 BST 29-31 May 2015

Levi wins the 'King of the Lake' crown

The final day and last race in Riva had spectators on the edge of their seats. A shifty Garda breeze gave way for Dario Levi's Fremito D'Arja to win the event. Igor Rytov on RUS-296 won Race Six, securing his final second overall position. Claudio Dutto's Asante Sana slipped one spot to finish the regatta on the podium.

The final race of the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series hosted by Fraglia Della Vela Riva and organized by B.Plan Sport & Events (BPSE) in cooperation with Melges Europe was nothing short of intense. Once the shifty breeze on Lake Garda settled in, the course was set with the first start resulting in an OCS for Manfredi Vianini Tolomei's Maolca and Vladmir Prosikhin on Nika. Rytov on the other hand got off to a great start leading teams around the track, holding off the likes of Stefano Santucci's Tomahawk, Lauro Bonora's Camay, Matteo Marenghi Vaselli on Lucifer and Oleg Evdokimenko's Kotyara. Rytov stayed strong to take the win with Bonora overtaking Marenghi Vaselli on the last run to the finish for second. Jan Kuchar on Aloha had a great race to finish fourth and Alessandro Rombelli on STIG took fifth.

Unfortunately for Rytov, his all out assault on the fleet today was not enough to conquer the newly crowned 'King of the Lake' - Dario Levi. Rytov was minus a point and left to settle for second overall while Dutto, who finished a frightening thirty-first (his discard) in Race Six was third overall.

Other nice finishes in the overall sector today included Rombelli moving up from tenth to end the event in seventh overall. Evdokimenko found himself finishing in the top five after his discard of Race Three. Vianini Tolomei's eleventh place recovery in Race Six granted him a eight overall finishing position.

Very special thanks go to all the competitors who attended this great event and most especially to title sponsor Audi, BPSE, and Fraglia Della Vela Riva for the fantastic cooperation and the warm hospitality.

Next up in Europe is the Russian Open Championship - also taking place in Riva Del Garda on June 12-14. Porto Ercole is the next destination for the Audi-Tron Sailing Series before heading off to Trapani for the European Championship happening September 3-5.

Learn to love sailing in heavy air
