Bourne End Week regatta at Upper Thames Sailing Club is this weekend but it's not too late to enter. Visitors are able to register in person every day and sailors are welcome to come for just one day to see what sailing on the river Thames is all about.
This year the regatta team are pleased to receive some generous sponsors in local Volvo dealer Squire Furneaux, Virtual Rigger chandlers, Creation Covers, First Great Western and Andrew Milson estate agents, plus of particular interest to competitors, sailing kit from Aberdeen Asset Management.
Spectators are welcome too, especially to see the historic Thames A Raters as well as a strong Merlin fleet. The other classes racing are Wayfarers, OKs, Merlin Rockets and RS Fevas, plus new additions this year of Solos and National 12s, and fast and slow handicap.
Camping is available just behind the clubhouse, and catering is provided throughout the week. The club is in a lovely setting with the Thames Path running through the grounds, and is only a few minutes' walk from all the facilities in the village of Bourne End.
More information is available online at the BEW website, bew.utsc.org.uk along with the Notice of Race and a gallery of many photos of previous years' regattas. There are even links to film of Bourne End Weeks of long ago on the website history page.
