Twenty nine entries came to the start line for Frensham's annual Cadet dinghy open meeting. These included entries from as far away as West Kirby, and Bristol as well as South Cerny and Parkstone and of course a full turnout of home entries. The event consists of four races in two sessions of back to back starts.
A fine day and a light westerly breeze made for good competition. A windward beat led round mark 9 off the club house a notoriously tricky part of the course. Here, with the Pond at its most malicious, a well judged final tack was needed. Although the fleet became drawn out over the whole course the standard of boat handling was good with smart tacks and slick spinnaker setting.
Each race had a committee boat start just off the north beach. At this point the breeze was steady and reasonably directional; nearer the clubhouse the infamous wind shifts took effect. The conditions helped local boats including local pair Anna Morgan and Jemima Hill who had a clean sweep of wins in their boat What's it Called 9020, second was another Frensham pair Isobel Spiers and Emily Spiers True Colours 9984. These two boats were given a good contest by furthest travelled entry Alex and James Colquitt from West Kirby.
Frensham were most honoured to have the prizes presented by a distinguished visitor, RYA Chairman, Stacey Clark himself a long ago Cadet helm. He was introduced by club commodore Keith Videlo. Stacey Clark spoke a few words about his learning in a Cadet and subsequent offshore sailing.
