Kingsmead sailing Club hosted a round of the Thames Valley Series Solo Open on Saturday 21st March. The club was pleased to welcome 18 sailors from eleven different clubs, including four Kingsmead representatives.

As they arrived, the sailors were met by quite inhospitable conditions with a strong and variable breeze, under dull skies. They tucked into coffee and bacon rolls, which were on offer with relish!

The participants sailed three races or tried to as they coped with the wind shifts created by Kingsmead's three islands and there were quite a few capsizes and six DNS/DNFs plus one disqualification, making it quite a lively day for sailors, the safety crew and Duty Officer.

The Club laid on a tasty lunch after the first race and a tableful of cakes for afternoon tea. In the end, Steve Ede WMYC won with two firsts. Alan Bishop Girton SC came second with two seconds and Andrew Boyce Papercourt SC came third with a first and a fourth. Congratulations to them.

Steve generously thanked the hosts for their hospitality and then promptly dropped his prize of a bottle of wine at the winners' photo shoot. He handled his boat with much more skill!"
