Castle Cove SC prepares for the season ahead

After a winter of busy club improvements and maintenance, and successful widespread travelling performances by club members around the country and world, the CCSC sailing calendar is out, full, and about to begin in a big way.

The dinghy fraternity is looking forward to competing against and perhaps occasionally getting the better of newly crowned Int14 World Champions Glen & Sam, whether it be in the new 'Crumpet' when it's launched, or the no lesser challenge of Sam & either Megan or some other super crew in their Merlin. Meanwhile, hopeful future champions and others will be enjoying the benefits of the smart new training room now in operation under the balcony.

The Keelies are anticipating an interesting and hopefully more level playing field in 2015 with IRC being adopted widely, as Bill (MG335), Bob (J24), Woofy (J90) etc all try to hold off the packs in the stacked keelboat calendar.

In amongst, and for some – as well as the events below – the cruising clan are marking their cards for group trips to Worbarrow, Cherbourg, Brixham, and many others.

Some imminent and some big dates are:

  • Mon & Wed & Sunday series start – 13th/15th/19th Apr
  • Club Open Day – 'Push the Boat Out' – 9th May
  • RS800 warm-up event (pre-Nationals) – 16th/17th May
  • Cove Cup – Keelboats 18/20th May, Dinghies - 23/24th May
  • Allen Welling Grand prix racing – 21st June
  • Barnes Trophy Summer Pursuit - 28th June
  • YCW Dinghy Regatta – 11th/12th July
  • Castle Cup & Leg2 SBSC/LRSC/CCSC 3way – 16th Aug
  • RS800/700 Nationals – 20th-23rd Aug
  • Basso Cup – 'the Big one!' – 5th/6th Sept
  • Scorpion/Musto Skiff Open – 10th/11th Oct
