Round 2 of the IOM Met & Southern Championships was held on 21st March on Reading Sailing Club lake at Sonning.

There were a record 21 entries for the event, visitors having travelled from far and wide. Richard Wills made the trip from deepest Cornwall and Odd Egil Nordanger came by public transport, train and bus, to arrive from Clapham in Central London. Enthusiasm for radio sailing has no bounds.

There was a light northerly breeze to start with promise of stronger veering winds later. A triangular course was set and after two races the pattern was forming with Tony Gurrier of 3-Rivers and John Arundel of Reading leading the way. By lunchtime John, with his intuitive reading of the shifting wind, had moved into the lead.

This pattern continued, Tony having a charge to win two races after the break, only for John to come back and win the final two.

Colin Trower of Hampton Court moved into third spot after obtaining redress for an entanglement just ahead of the ever consistent Hugh McAdoo of Guildford.
