Following the recent culmination of hard work by its members Marconi Sailing Club has recently attained the status of an RYA Championship Club. As the governing body for the sport of sailing, the Royal Yachting Association awards this prestigious title for clubs who have achieved certain standards and are able to provide the facilities to help nurture and train young sailors.
The award was presented by Olympic Laser Class Sailor Nick Thompson to Club Commodore Michaela Dowley at the recent RYA Dinghy Exhibition at Alexandra Palace in London.
Marconi's achievement will now enable them to access the full help and support of the RYA to help recruit new young sailors in to the sport. The club already offers an extensive training programme for its youth membership with regular training days, participation in the National Schools Sailing Association Championship and inter-club sail days.
In order to celebrate its achievement Marconi is holding an Open Day on Saturday 16th May to show its facilities to potential new members.
