Club Race Officers training course at Crosby SC © Charlie Middleton

Crosby SC held a Club Race Officers course for their members on Valentine's Day. The North West RYA race officer supreme Henry Wright, being the club's guru for the day. All the gents who attended obviously had very understanding other halves (apart from 13yr old Charlie) who had granted them a day pass on such a special day.

The day kicked off with coffees and a basic rules run down for race officers. They then went through what was to be an interesting run through on flags and the timings.

A lunch lovingly packed by 'wives' was eaten.

Practical took over from theory and the boys took to the water in a committee boat and mark laying boat. Sailing Secretary, Ian Middleton, who had organised the day, took to the water with son Charlie in Laser Radials to test the duty RO's grasp of the course. Pushing the line was the order of the day to see who would raise the general recall or let them go. There were postponement flags, black flags and combinations of all.

Overall a really instructive and interesting day was had. And the gents returned home to lavish treats onto their other halves.

Crosby SC would like to thank Allen Brothers "designed for sailing" for supplying all the new race officers with Allen bow stickers for their boats and copies of their IYRU Racing Rules 2013-2016 posters.

Tomorrow will be the real test of Valentines Day; who will step up to the hot seat and run a superb days racing?

Please..........(insert as applicable), let..............come out to play.
Love Crosby SC sailing sec. X
