A great season beckons for RS Tera sailors in the North of England. The details of the Travellers' circuit are now finalised and the fleet have 4 cracking summer meetings to enjoy, with a new 'Autumn' gathering added to the mix to provide further opportunities for racing amongst this very competitive fleet.
The first meeting of the 2015 Northern series will take place at Bassenthwaite SC. This is a new venue for the class, but a very welcome one as it heralds the club starting to establish it's own Tera fleet. The event will form the 2015 Northern Championships with racing for both Pro and Sport rigs on Saturday 2 and 3 May. There will be optional coaching on Monday 4 May too. The club has extended a warm welcome to the class and we look forward to a great weekend in some spectacular scenery.
Just two weeks later Ripon SC will host their own Open Meeting, on 16 and 17 May. This is always a great venue for close racing and good spectating and we hope to see a good turnout from the home club, who have one of the largest fleets in the North. On the water coaching will be provided for the newest and least experienced helms, and this will be a theme at all the events.
In early June the fleet heads north, to Derwent Reservoir SC. This was the venue for the 2014 National Championships and the fleet knows just how much fun is to be had on this very large stretch of water. Another large home fleet should provide a good attendance with plenty of space to allow the RO to set some good courses.
The final 'summer' meeting will include the summer series prize giving and will take place at South Windermere SC on Saturday 11 July. A most beautiful Lakeland venue with the warmest of welcomes always makes this a very special end to the series. With 3 out of the 4 events to qualify for the overall series prizes, there are prizes promised for all qualifiers. Many of the fleet will then meet up again in Holland, with a large Northern contingent expected to make the trip over to Bruinisse for the RS Tera World Championships in late July.
Our Autumn term will see a number of great events including a 2 day Autumn Meet at Leigh and Lowton SC on 12 and 13 September, and the RYA Zone Championships on 26 and 27 September. Here's to a great season!
