3-17 January 2015
Today the International 14 Worlds have finished at Geelong in southern Australia, and the British team of Glen Truswell and Sam Pascoe were crowned world champions with a day to spare. The top two steps of the podium were filled with Selden spars, beating the Australian teams in their own back yard.
With an impressive score line including five race wins, and discarding a second. The British team dominated the series in a mixture of conditions. Continuing on from there highly successful 2014 campaign, where they were unbeaten. The European Championships, POW week along with multiple open meetings were all taken by Glen and Sam using a highly customised Series 3 high modulus tube, a BC086 carbon boom and a high modulus tapered Bowsprit. Ben McGrane and James Hughes also used a Series 3 high modulus mast, and a BC086 boom to take second place overall.
The profiled Series 3 tube allows the team to have a mast tube that has different stiffness fore-aft and sideways. With International 14s requiring stiffer and stiffer rigs we produce this tube out of high modulus M40J carbon. The tube is produced on a filament winding machine, which can lay the carbon tow from 0 degrees to 90 degrees under computer control, this giving us the option to create different bend characteristics for the crews style and setup. This method of production gives us ultimate repeatability when building new masts and developing new sections.
Masts are finished with an in house designed and moulded carbon track available in different stiffness to also complement the mast section and also change the stiffness further where required. Moulded carbon spreader brackets and spreader arms that are fully adjustable to even further control mast bend and rig setup. Other fittings are to the normal high Seldén standard which is very important for this highly loaded performance dinghy.
We look forward to working with more crews in the run up to the next worlds taking place in Carnac, France.
