The final coaching weekend for the RS Feva Squiddies was held at Burnham Sailing Club over the weekend of the 13th/14th December. Rock star crew Catie Atkin tells us what happened...

The Christmas Squiddies session had an amazing festive feel with the average beanie being replaced with Santa and Christmas turkey hats.

On the first day, the wind was unfortunately lighter than was expected yet was still building slightly throughout the day with a North-Westerly breeze. Considering it was December, the weather was clear and bright. During that time we enjoyed lots of great coaching from Jonathan, Flynn and George learning about how to gybe and refining our down-wind boat handling skills. The amazing thing about our coaches is that in the debriefings, and also on the water they provide you with direct points about how you need to improve and what you can work on, unique to you and your crew/helm.

On the second day, the wind started off heavier and built to a great speed however ended up dropping off towards the end. Having worked on our 'low and slow' on the Saturday our coaches decided to work on our 'high and fast' technique on the Sunday. This was very enjoyable because although we learned a lot about this, we had lots of fun trying to plane down the river. I also had to complete a sailing photography project and I ended up with lots of excellent shots with everyone eager to get involved.

Overall I think that all of the sailors will join me in thanking the coaches for an amazing weekend full of brilliant coaching which I feel has definitely improved my Feva sailing, and all of the wonderful volunteers that gave up their time to provide us with food and hot chocolates as soon as we came off the water which were greatly appreciated by everyone. I am looking forward to the next session but before that I hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!

The Squiddies are now looking forward to the festive break, however they will back on the water early in 2015 with sights set on the RS Feva worlds in Travemunde.
