To celebrate the huge success of the youth section at Hayling Island Sailing Club over the past year, the Youth Committee hosted a Youth Prize Review last weekend to round off the season.
The evening included the presentation of the first HISC Junior Sailors' Sailor of the Year award and the Youth Sailors' Sailor Award. Both trophies were voted for by HISC youth sailors and were awarded to:
Freddy Wood – Junior Sailors' Sailor Award – for his achievement in winning the RS Tera Sport National Championship 2014 and for his encouragement to other sailors on the water.
Elliott Wells – Youth Sailors' Sailor Award – who was nominated for his inspirational sailing talents. Elliott has won both the RS Tera National and World Championships, the RS Feva Nationals and Inlands Championships. He was also selected to be an RYA National Junior Squad member in 2012/13 and is currently the youngest ever helm in the UK 29er Squad. Elliott was recognized for being an extraordinarily talented and inspirational sailor.
In addition to the two main awards, many other youth sailors were highlighted for their performances during the season including winners of the HISC Monthly junior series, and Pennant Weekend events. In addition a long list of HISC sailors were recognized for their performances at World, European and National championships in a wide variety of classes as well as some highly successful team racing events.
