Sunday saw the final race of the Frostbite Series 2014 at Hollowell Sailing Club. The prevailing south-westerly wind returned to the reservoir, but with a noticeable chill. Wind speeds were moderate, although gusts were in the region of 40 mph. This made for some exhilarating runs, but also the odd capsize.
With some of the main contenders choosing not to race, Rob Dunkley flew ahead in his Blaze to take an early lead. Barny Creaser in his Streaker then took up the battle for second place. Creaser had to use all his skills to hold off former Commodore, Russell Brayshaw; who made a welcome visit to club, after having moved from the area.
The positions throughout the race remained largely unchanged and finished with Dunkley crossing the line first, followed by Creaser and Brayshaw.
Speaking after the race Dunkley remarked "That was a brilliant last race to end this Series on. I'm looking forward to our Christmas Party now!"
Despite Dunkley's win in the final race, Keith Lancaster's lead overall was so great; he clinched the Series for the second year running. Simon Cray who had been challenging hard all season secured second place and Rob Dunkley gained a much deserved third place.
Racing at Hollowell Sailing Club continues this coming weekend with the start of the Snowflake Series. At the moment, wind and temperature forecasts look similar to last Sunday.
