"The call for help"
Sunday 30th November saw the fourth event in the P&B Winter Series at King George Sailing Club. The event had been deferred from the previous Sunday due to poor conditions. The day started out looking bleak, at the start of R1, the wind dropped off completely and all competitors were left stranded. Horey and Jarvis badly placed for the start, sat way back down the first beat. The race was close to being abandoned, when suddenly the promised breeze arrived. Jarvis and others never making up the position from a poor start, but a close race formed at the front.
The second race looked far more promising with a steady 10 knots. The fleet got away well and battled for position to the windward mark. The lead changing hands many times downwind to marker number 11. The fleet was still together, and reaching to 10, rounding 10, the fleet passed the race box, and at that point it was clear that marker 9 had replaced marker 10. As the fleet turned back, Mo in 4730 found himself transformed from last place to first. Desperate to take advantage he called in vain for advice from his fellows as he headed to 9. "Port or Starboard?" The first request yielded no clarity. "Port or Starboard", again a mixed reply, trying his luck he went Port, only to discover it was a mistake. Last to first and back to last! Bad luck Sexy Mo?
The second lap saw the fleet split on the beat to 6. The Port side giving a far more favourable result helping Mo to make up places, while Cooper and Jarvis struggled to make up the disadvantage of the Starboard side. Much debate followed the race.
Then next event is Sunday 7th December, and we are expecting another good turnout and close racing.
