Following the success of this year's East Coast Piers Race, Marconi sailing Club in Steeple have once again helped to raise nearly £12,000 for local charity The Cirdan Trust who provide sailing experiences for under-privileged children.

The race held in July, which this year had over 50 entrants, saw competitors from all over the country travel to the club on the River Blackwater to take part in a long distance race which starts off the club near Osea Island, out past Bradwell and along the Essex Coast to Walton on the Naze covering a total distance of 48 miles taking an average of 6 hours to complete. First place honours were taken by club members Mitchell Glynn and Andrew Dowley.

Leoni Back from The Cirdan Trust based in Bradwell was on hand at Marconi's recent Annual General Meeting held on Sunday 23rd November to receive the cheque from Club Commodore Michaela Dowley. Ms Back thanked club members for their efforts and recognised the club's commitment to the charity which Marconi has supported for many years. A £500 donation was also made to Essex Air Ambulance whom the club is also keen to support. Next year's race is scheduled for the 28th June 2015.
