SOLO FOCUS WITH P&B

The solo class has strength in depth in the UK rivalled only by the Laser and I think it is fairly obvious why. With variations in rig configurations the solo has the ability to cater for a wide range of sailor weights and with pretty much every club in the country boasting a buoyant club fleet and huge open meeting circuit you can be guaranteed close racing whether it be a lake or sea venue.

There is more to it than this though, the Solo has survived through the years, where many new boats have come and failed the Solo continues to attract a following. This is due, in part to a wide availability of second hand boats with prices to suit all budgets and the active class. However I believe it goes beyond this, at the end of the day the Solo is just a really nice, 'pure' boat to sail!

The class is well supported by more builders and sail makers than just about any other class and P&B is one of the leaders in this market. With our unparalleled ability to offer new boats, sails and complete packages along with being the Solo classes chosen chandlery we have everything a solo sailor could need (or desire!). With our HQ in Northampton and new base in Fareham we are now better positioned than ever to support the solo fleet.

NEW BOATS
P&B have a long running history of supplying Championship winning Solo’s completed to our own fit out specifications. Over the years the Solo has continually evolved with the introduction of additional controls and P&B have been at the forefront of this development, our team are happy to talk through the options with you in order to make sure your boat is exactly to your requirements.

Winder
The Winder MK1 is the proven benchmark of the Solo world, a fantastic all round performer for the last decade and beyond. The quality of finish associated with all Winder builds is evident with the MK1, with only small tweaks being needed over the years to keep the MK1 at the front, it is still the fleets best seller.

The MK2 was originally a Speed Sails product, taken on by Winders, the Phil Milanes design has seen excellent results with a much improved finish and build quality. The design favours inland sailing with less water taken on during tacking and is also an excellent design for heavier sailors.

JP/P&B Solo
P&B’s own product which was penned with assistance from Ian Pinnell has a much finer bow and increased rocker running aft. This has created a boat which has less resistance sailing in waves and planes earlier. The JP was in high demand from the outset, now built in house to assure short lead times and finishing to the highest standard, we have high hopes for the JP in 2015.

Other key features with the JP include foils made from CNC machined moulds. Centreboards are available in 3 different variations of stiffness to suit different sailor weights. With the JP, customers also have the ability to choose thwart, grip, deck and hull colours.

SAILS
P&B offer a wide variety of sails for the Solo recognising the different requirements in cut and depth for different rigs and different weight sailors, whilst also offering different cloth and construction to suit all budgets whether it be club sailing or championship campaigning.
NEW Solo Sail

Laminate Sails
The P&B laminate sail is made of a cross cut construction with radial head and foot panels for increased stability and minimal distortion. This sail is available in flat, medium and full cuts and with luff lines required to suit the popular mast sections used within the class.

During 2014 P&B have been trialling a full radial constructed sail (as above) with great results. With an even fairer flying shape than the standard sail we expect this to be a popular product in 2015.

Dacron Sails
Produced to the same flying shapes as the P&B laminate sails and also available with luff lines to suit all popular sections. Dacron offers a lower price alternative with great longevity for club racing. Our Dacron sails are available as cross cut with radial head and foot panels or full cross cut.

Battens
P&B are always looking for the ultimate performance, we have supplied carbon battens for certain classes for many years and introducing them to our Solo sails was an obvious progression. Giving a great weight saving these battens are a must have for the competitive racer!

SPARS
Picking a new mast for your Solo requires a lot of consideration, with more options than you’d find in any other class P&B’s knowledge can really help you make the best choice for you. We stock all leading brands and know all the latest from Selden and Superspar with development sections so don’t hesitate to get in touch should you want to know more.

Spars and rigging are finished to our championship winning specifications and can be supplied quickly to get you back on the water without hassle.
